How would you feel if you knew that Nike, H&M and Boohoo are behind the Uighurs Camps in China, child labor, sexual harassment for their workers, and running their factories like prison camps?

These are popular brands for young adults, teens and adults. Which means everytime one of these people buy a piece from these companies it contributes to  the forced labour in developing countries.

Nike is accused of manufacturing Nike products in sweatshop conditions ( A “sweatshop” is defined by the US Department of Labor as a factory that violates 2 or more labor laws).

Also accused of using child labor, and a lack of benefits for workers., using child labour, paying less than mininum wage, enforcing overtime, subjecting employees to verbal abuse and sexual harassement and running factories like prison camps.

In February 2020, the Washington Post reported that a large Nike supplier factory, Qingdao Taekwang Shoes Co, had been employing Uighurs from the Xinjiang region of China.

The report stated that “The brand can show no evidence of a Living Wage being paid to any workers”.

Nike makes about 37.4 billion U.S. dollars, so they could pay  24 yuan per hour (minimum wage in China) which is 3,71 U.S. dollars per hour, which is 4.76 CAD dollars per hour.

H&M is accused of greenwashing( which means burning clothes that have not been sold) over plans to make clothes from sustainable fabric which is bad for the planet as bad it is for the environment.

Boohoo is also accused of slavery in factories, low pay, poor conditions, fueling the Covid-19 around Leicester, photoshopping model pictures and finally, putting buttpads on skinny, no-curving models.

Boohoo, H&M and Nike have denied all allegations against them saying that they didn’t know what was going on in China and that they know now because of the reports informing the public of what they have done.

Because of these allegations H&M  started offering recycling services at more than 4,200 stores to prevent their customer’s unwanted clothing from reaching landfill.

Nike has done nothing so as Boohoo.

If you want to help you could try buying less clothes from these companies or simply just boycott it.
