Alex Ovechkin, one of the best NHL player, tied Maurice Richard in number of goals at the Bell center, in Montreal on Monday January 9th.

The number 8 of the Washington Capitals scored his 544th career goal in a victory of 4 to 1 against the Canadiens. The same team that Maurice “The Rocket” Richard always played for! In this game, he got 1 goal and 2 assists! He got a differential of +2 and he made 5 shots on Carey Price.

On this date he was the 29th player with the most goals in the history of the NHL!

“It’s nice to be in the history and it’s nice to be tied with a legend. Still, I have a lot of years to go and I’m going to try to do my best.” said the captain of the Capitals after the game.

He has been drafted at the first round by the Capitals in 2004. Since this year, he has always played in the NHL. That means that he achieved this feat in 13 years, so he has an average of 42 goals per year!

It took to the late Maurice Richard 978 games to score 544 goals and Ovechkin scored the same in only 879 games! It took to the Russian player 99 games less!

After his game, Ovi said:” The Bell Center is an historical place and I’m happy to tie “the Rocket” there, in one of the best atmosphere of the NHL.”

Ovechkin still has a lot of goals (350) to score to reach the first of all time, Wayne Gretzky who scored a total of 894 goals!

Furthermore, the game after, on  Wednesday January 11th, the Russian player made his 1000th career point in the NHL against the Pittsburgh Penguins. He got his 1000th point with a spectacular goal in his 880th game and he’s the 84th player in the NHL history to achieve that.

Maurice Richard finished his career with 965 points and he played 18 years! Ovechkin got his 1000th point in 13 years and he still has a lot of years to play!
