Since last year, the american company , Netflix, was blocked by the school board leaving students and teachers angry and disapointed.

0n august 29 1997, Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph fouded a new corporation called Netflix. The platform is situated in Los Gatos, in California. It was created to entertain people by providing series, movies and documentaries for their worldwide users.  They have surprised everyone with the number of subscriptions they attracted. In july 2017, Netflix reached about 104 000 000 suscribers.

As you may know, series help us learn languages and improve vocabulary. It provides as many as 26 different types of subtitles. The series are mainly offered in French and English.

Over time, Netflix has grown up so much that they now produce their own material such as 13 Reasons Why, Orange Is the New Black, Stranger Things, House Of Cards, The Get Gown , Sense8 and so many others.

The Commission Scolaire de la Capitale, was the one that took the decison about blocking Netflix. In the last 2 years they found that Netflix was taking too much of the bandwidth of our local server. Since the end of last year, the school’s network broke down many times because of the growing demand of data.

” It’s like a tree, it provides every school with the same amount of GO and if a school surpases its data, it affects everyone ” said Marc-André , the technicien of the school.

Up to now ,the technicien is not sure if the network is going to comeback in schools.
