Gabrielle Gauvin

In Quebec city, we are not only known for our delicious maple syrup, but also for our rude and long winters.

For this holiday, Quebec is completely decorated and illuminated at night. Here are some places you must visit at this time of the year.

1. Quartier Petit-Champlain

Rue Petit-Champlain in Quebec is a very interesting street to visit in winter. During the month of December, there are a lot of activities to do with your family. For example, the Christmas Pet Day and the Christmas Family Day. There is also music, animation and the visit of  Santa Claus. For the schedule and more information, visit quartierpetitchamplain.com.

2. Place de l’hôtel de Ville

If you’re looking for gift ideas, the Boutique De Noël on Place de l’hôtel de Ville is a good place to start. You will be impressed by all the toys and decorations the place hosts.

The amateurs of antic buildings will be pleased with the Notre-Dame de Quebec Basilica-Cathedral. The construction started in 1647. Situated in front of the Town City Hall, the Cathedral welcomes a lot of visitors every year.

3. Chateau Frontenac

This prestigious hotel never was a castle in spite of its name. It is the most photographed one of all. The hotel counts 3 restaurants, 2 bars, and some cafes. Everybody with a reservation is welcome. You could even see Santa Claus in the hall and take pictures with him and your kids.

4. The German Christmas market

Open from November 23 to December 23, the German market was designed to look and feel European. Located in the heart of the Old Quebec, it holds a unique ambiance where you can taste German products, from spicy wine to delicious pastries. Chorals, shows, and animation are waiting for you as much inside as outside.

The market will receive the visit of the real Santa Claus. It’s an occasion the children won’t want to miss. Also, the Ravensburger chalet hosts the Kindermarkt, a zone for kids.

5. District Saint-Roch

Every year at Christmas, on the street Saint-Roch, a  15 meters Christmas tree illuminates the night. A variety of restaurants and shops will provide you and your family with food and fun. Since 1984, the exposition of creches at the Gabrielle-Roy library attracts thousands of visitors every year.
