Fired after wrongly declaring baby dead

Two doctors from the Max Super Specialty Hospital in New Delhi, India, were fired after declaring a baby dead while still alive.

A woman had to give birth to twins, a boy and a girl last Thursday at MaxSuper hospital. The birth of the first child, a girl, was without problems. However, two hours after the boy’s birth, the doctors confirmed to the parents that the baby didn’t survive the delivery.

According to CNN, it was on their way to the funeral that the parents realized that there was movement in the body bag in which their child was being transported. Seeing the movements in the bag, the parents asked to open it and that’s when they saw their boy breathe.

“When we opened the bag, we saw him breathe. He was alive. We were in shock, we could not believe our eyes.” told CNN the grandfather of the child.

Even though the worst has been avoided, the baby has been in a critical situation. He was placed under respiratory support and his condition is considered “very serious”. Doctors would still try to maintain his vital signs, according to information obtained by CNN.

The Max Super Specialty Hospital declared in a statement that the baby had indeed been declared dead because he did not have any vital signs.

The hospital management also includes the dismissal of two doctors, but their addition cannot be interpreted as an admission of guilt by two doctors.
An investigation will be conducted internally to determine how such a situation occurred.

And in August, more than 60 children died at a hospital in Gorakhpur after the facility’s oxygen supply ran out amid a financial dispute with suppliers.
