Motocross on Snow
February 2, 2016
Timbersled is a product and a manufacturer of snow bikes. The company founded in 2001 began by designing and selling aftermarket accessories for snowmobiles. Over the years, the technology evolved and Timbersled came up with a new prototype of snowmobile. The concept was to put a snowmobile track on the back of a motocross, and a ski instead of the front wheel. The goal was to combines the speed and agility of a motocross and the all-terrain capacity of a snowmobile. It took them 9 years to achieve the perfect combination and set ups. The company now has many models to choose from, and numerous options.
There are 4 different models. There is the short track(120″), the long track(137), the snow cross(120″) and the snow cross(137″). The short track has a good stability in snow and has the ultimate versatility. The long track has a better maneuverability in deep snow and a better traction. The snow cross models offers a race performance but the (137″) model has the best traction in deep snow. Guillaume Racine A KTM’s representative said that the best models for doing jumps are the snow cross Timbersled. The cost for a kit is between $5300 and $6500 depending of the model. You can fit a Timbersled on any motocross. But the company suggests to put it on a 4 stroke bike because it is too rough for the clutch of a 2 stroke engine.
There are two ways to install the track on your bike. But, before doing the installation of the track and the ski, you need to take out parts of your dirt bike: the front wheel, the rear wheel, the swing arm, the linkage and the front break system. The first option is the most economical way to start timbersledding. You only have to fix the track with a kit of struts wich comes with the Timbersled. The second option is little bit more expensive. This requires to put a Timbersled suspension strut, which will give you a smoother ride and more control over your snow bike.
