How is Social Distancing Affecting People?
February 3, 2022
Some adults, children and adolescents develop mental illnesses or bad habits due to social distancing and isolation during the pandemic.
As we know, during a phase of Covid-19, teenagers could not see their friends, because they had to stay home. Socializing was hard due to the fact that they had to attend school from home. A girl named Aya said she couldn’t sleep and was still up at 4 am because of her anxiety. Her days seemed way longer and more lonely.
In other words, even if social distancing is for our health, it still has some bad effects on our mental health. Drug addictions, social anxiety, the loss of sense of community, insomnia and growing individualism are some good examples. The problem is that socializing is a human need and if some limits are put on it, it might cause some mental illnesses and bad habits. For teens and children, it can have an impact on their personal growth.
Now you might wonder why social distancing is implanted. Actually, it’s to propagate as little as possible the virus. Covid-19 has killed a lot of people and to keep the numbers of death stable or make them go down, we have to keep distance, wear a mask and put hand sanitizer when we enter public places.
Luckily, there are some solutions to this. Just by keeping active even if it’s in your house you can feel better. Walk around, go downstairs or room to room and you’ll see the difference. Also, if you are on facetime you can walk or just stand instead of sitting like most of the time. Going outside and breathing fresh air can help too.
