Yemen Still in Crisis

Laetitia Gosselin

People are very worried about Ukraine but it doesn’t mean that other crisis have just gone into oblivion. Yemen is still among the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. One of the problems is that people have forgotten about it.

The country is now in its seventh year of war and their living conditions are getting worse. The conflict escalated in March 2015 and the economic situation is really bad.

The children are really affected. At least 10 000 of them have been killed or injured. Thousands of children got recruited into the fighting. “The war has robbed too many of Yemen’s children of safety, education and opportunities,” mentioned the United Nations. They also mentioned that Yemen is one of the most difficult places in the world to be a child. The children either have probably experienced or attend atrocious violence that no child should ever face. Nearly 400 000 of them are in imminent risk of death. Most of the kids are malnourished and depend on humanitarian assistance to survive.

The pandemic has a big impact on the crisis. The COVID-19 added a big stress in the health system which had already been burst by war.
