Aggresion on Ukrainian Women

In most wars, the sexual offense is mostly used to cause distrust in the opponent’s mind.

Nearly all of the sexual assaults created in the war are hidden till the very end of the conflict, and sometimes they are not even recognized as war casualties.

It has always been a problem, in those combat that happened before and even now. Ukraine was not spared from that awful war technique. Ukrainian Women have been and will keep getting violated if the Russian invasion continues.

According to the Journal de Québec, one 17 year old was a victim of the statutory offense, she was later killed by Russian soldiers. She is surely one of many women assaulted in those cities occupied by Russian soldiers.

While the technique is common the consequence on the women is still undocumented. The repercussions of the aggression in their mind are surely unbearable. That is why most women, are too shocked to even be able to talk of the attack.

Sexual crimes have always happened since antiquity, however, they only have been officially recognized as such since the 20th century. The Geneva Convention has been protecting women from physical attacks, rape, and prostitution since 1977. It was after the Bosnian war (1992-1995) and the Rwandan war (1994) that systematic assault was officially recognized as a genocidal strategy and a crime against humanity.

The use of this cruel method should not be repeated in wars, it’s a crime against women’s well-being. According to the web journal Aljazeera, those people aggressing those poor victims of the Russian invasion should be punished heavily.  Attacking them when all they want is to be at peace and live their lives like how they did before all the war, is so wrong and cruel knowing some of the women have lost one or more of their loved ones. Traumatism does not only affect women but also their families and community.
