Most of the music in North America is produced in the United States.  It is one of the most important countries in the world for music production along with England. It is very diverse due to the multi-ethnic population. The main genres of modern music in North America include pop, blues, jazz, country, R&B, soul, rock, metal, punk, hip hop and rap.

South America

Music in a big part of the South American culture and traditions. The lyrics are generally in Spanish due to the fact that it is the most spoken language in South America. It has a pretty large variety of styles such as nueva canción, salsa, tejano music, reggaeton, latin pop and latin ballads. Types of instruments typically used in modern South American music include: pan pipes, flutes, rattles, the guitar and the drum.

Europe

Music in Europe is very diverse and the style changes according to the country’s culture and traditions. Many of the most successful artists and most legendary pieces and songs in the history of music originate from there. Europe is also recognized internationally for its many music festivals.  Here are a few examples of music styles that change according to the country and culture.

France: Classical music was very popular in France from the medieval times to the 20th century. Today, the most popular genres are pop, hip-pop and dance. They are greatly influenced by American music.

England: The United Kingdom has one of the world’s largest music industries today, with many British musicians having had an impact on modern music. Through history, it has been a major source of pop musical inspiration.

Germany: This country has some of the most renowned composers, producers and performers of the world. Germany is the largest music market in Europe, and 3rd largest in the world. Germany also hosts many large rock music festivals annually.

Africa

The traditional music of Africa is historically ancient, rich, and diverse, with the different regions and nations of Africa having many distinct musical traditions. Percussion instruments of every variety, including xylophones, drums, and tone-producing instruments are used a lot. Today, many popular African artists such as P-Square and Davido do many styles of music like hip-hop, pop and R&B.

Asia

Asian music possesses numerous different musical styles originating from a large number of Asian countries.

India: India’s classical music tradition has a history that extends a millennia. Today, Bollywood music is the most popular kind of music, and the style is slightly influenced by the western culture.

Japan: Japan has the 2nd biggest music market in the world. The traditional Japanese music is one of the oldest in the world. The popular modern music is mostly western and Korean influenced pop, called J-Pop. Girl groups, boy bands and vocaloids are the most successful artists there, for example the girl group AKB48 sold more than 30 million records since 2010

Korea: Two distinct musical cultures exist in Korea today: traditional music and Western music. K-Pop is the most popular genre of music there, even becoming an increasingly global phenomenon with big successful groups like Bigbang, Girl’s Generation, BTS and EXO doing concerts all over the world.
