Bird Box was released in 2018 and was directed by Susanna Bier. The movie received mixed reviews from critics but quickly became the most-watched movie on Netflix within 28 days after it was released.

The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. Humans are confronted with an inexplicable invisible force that causes suicidal visions. A young woman with her two children with no name embarks on a desperate adventure following a river in order to reach a camp of survivors. Throughout the journey, the woman and the children are blindfolded to avoid visions so as not risk to die.

Filming began in California in October 2017. They mostly turned in Santa Cruz, and the wild nature scenes were turned on the Smith River.

In the movie, the main actress and the children are blindfolded, and after seeing the movie, some people on social media start to do normal activities like cooking or other things blindfolded. Unfortunately, some have injured themselves trying this challenge; The Bird Box challenge. ” This is not the first time that we have seen a challenge launched on social media end badly,” said André Mondoux, sociologist and specialist in social media.
