The November strike had negative repercussions on sports teams across the province.
The volleyball team of La Camaradière High School missed two tournaments due to the strike. The team captain said, “When we heard the news we were all disappointed.” They had a reason to say that because they were supposed to have three tournaments before Christmas.
With the tournaments cancelled, some teams were demoralized and didn’t have the energy to perform well in practice. This was said by the head of Club Essor Stephane Martin, “My teams seem down because of the tournaments and this affects the gameplay of my players in practice and in the games we organized.”
Their next tournament, after the missed ones, is on Saturday the third of February 2024 and Mélianne Lamontagne and Ève-Sara Beauregard two volleyball girls of La Camaradière declared,” We are very excited about the tournament this weekend and hope we win.”
Sports players all around the school have missed practices as badminton players like Kael Arsenault. “I have missed a lot of practices because of the strike and my progression has decreased.”
The strike also negatively affected team spirit.” Because of the strike, I feel that my team and I are playing alone and not really as a team. The practices and games we missed would have played a great part in our bonding and we would have progressed way more,” said Charles Alain a basketball player of La Camaradière.
The strike didn’t only affect high schools, but also colleges. The revenue from renting gymnasiums stopped for a few weeks because of the closure of these establishments.
