Portable Classrooms at La Camaradière

In the past years, the Ministry of Education resorted to installing portable classrooms across major schools in Quebec. This is the case of La Camaradière High School due to overpopulation.

The population of Quebec increases every year, so the lack of classes, lockers, and space for students is common in the Quebec school system. La Camaradière High School has faced the same issue in the past years, there are too many students and space is missing. There’s a massive difference in students over the last 5 years, in 2018 there were 1102 and in 2024 there are 1483 students. It’s for this reason that the direction decided to get portable classrooms.

In the portable section, there will be 12 standard classrooms and about 30 students in each class. There will be a dining space but not a cafeteria, a bathroom on each level, lockers,  a teacher’s department, a TTS office, and a corridor to access the school from inside or outside. Students will gain access from the art class corridor.

In every class, there will be brand-new furniture like desks, boards, projectors, and chairs. There will be functional windows so the classrooms should be brighter. Also, the classes will have air conditioning and heating.

”We don’t know yet who will be in the classes, we will determine. It will be decided at the beginning of the year at the same time as we’re making the schedules and the repartition of classes in the spring,” said our principal, Anne-Marie Lemieux.

The exact deadline has not been determined yet, but they will receive the containers in May or June. “This is a huge project that is coming,” said the principal Anne-Marie Lemieux. She also said that it would cost a lot of money, she didn’t know the exact price, but it could be around 200 000$ just to equip the classrooms with TBI and furniture. The Ministry of Education will sponsor this project.

It is still a work in progress and further developments are expected soon.
