NHL Players Plead Guilty to Sexual Assault on Minor
February 2, 2024
A young woman has been sexually assaulted by Nicolas Daigle and Massimo Siciliano, two professional hockey players. They also took videos of her without her permission. Nicolas Daigle is accused of having disclosed them.
It happened on June 5, 2021 at night. The Victoriaville Tigres had just won their first President’s Cup in nearly 20 years, against the Val-d’Or Foreurs.
The victim was working in the hotel where the team celebrated their victory. Maude, the victim, was 17 years old and the two boys were 19 years old when the assault occurred.
Nicolas Daigle invited her to his room and she asked if he was alone. He answered yes. He wasn’t. When the girl arrived in his room she was trapped. She didn’t know how to react so she did what they wanted her to do. She didn’t give her consent. The two boys even admitted that Maude “didn’t seem to like it.”
The young woman went to the police on June 6, 2021. The DPCD (Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions) filed the charges in October, four months later. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is not considering a formal investigation at this time but suspended the two hockey players indefinitely. Because of this event, the League ensures that sexual assault will be taken very seriously.
The first in years
”It’s the trial of the year,” exclaimed one of the defendants’ lawyers.
Since 1989 The Canadian Hockey Federation has paid about 8,9 million dollars to secretly settle 21 complaints of sexual abuse. The trial of the two young guys is the first since the Hockey Canada scandal.
