2 parents started a forest fire when they were taking pictures for a gender reveal and pleaded guilty to the incident, which cost the life of a fireman and hundreds of evacuations.
In total, the fire expended 93 kilometers in more than 2 months, causing the death of the firefighter in service, 13 people injured, and hundreds of evacuations.
“Solving this problem couldn’t end like a victory. For the victims that lost many important items and memories, we understand that they would be irreplaceable”, said the prosecutor Jason Anderson, while announcing the verdict.

Friday, Rfugio Jiminez Jr, with his wife Angelina Jiminez, pleaded guilty to accidental murder and set on fire an uninhabited cabin, after causing an important forest fire on the 5th of September 2020 in California, according to British media. After pleading guilty, the man was given one year in jail, two years of probation, and 200 hours of community work. On the other side, the woman pleaded guilty to 3 accusations of criminal fire and has to do 400 hours of community work. The couple will have to pay a sum of 1,7 million American dollars.
In 2020, forest fires had reached a record of 9900 fires, burning four percent of the American ground.
