There are ’’Humorous’’ videos on TikTok that encourage most likely teenagers to die on February 13 to receive flowers on Valentine’s Day. It is raising concerns in the community.
MEDIAS
These types of “disturbing” videos should be banned, even if they are made under the cover of humor, affirms the Quebec Suicide Prevention Association. This TikTok could contribute to “weakening” people who would be “already vulnerable,” said Luc Massicotte, director of strategy and digital services at the Quebec Suicide Prevention Association.“The positive or romantic representation of suicide by making it attractive in a challenge does not do any useful work. The people who initiate this understand the impact of this type of challenge,” said Mr. Massicotte.
SCHOOLS AND PARENTS ARE CONCERNED
The parents received a worrying email from schools around Quebec the day before Valentine’s Day.
In the awareness message sent to parents, you can read: “We considered it important to warn you quickly since this is a challenge and encourage you to take action tomorrow (Tuesday). The intention is not to alarm you but to inform you of the existence of this challenge so that you can be on for any unusual behavior in your child. This email concerned a lot of families.
AN OLD TREND
This trend is nothing new, the first viral example found on TikTok was published on February 5, 2022. The TikTok was watched more than one-hundred-twenty-thousand times, we can see four young women dance to the sentence: died on February 13 to have flowers on Valentine’s Day. The tone is humorous and contains no warning case to be worried about.
TikTok trends have a lot of impact on people’s minds. It can drown people physically and mentally. People who create content aren’t concerned enough about the impact. At last, social media should be treated and used properly because it can impact many people’s lives.
