The 16-year-old teenager Anna Frey got famous very quickly on TikTok.
It started when one of her classmates frequently recorded her asking questions and uploaded the videos online. In the comment section, many people commented on her beauty and resemblance to Brock Purdy, a well-known football player who plays for the San Francisco Forty-Niners. She slowly started to get more and more followers on social media and even got verified on TikTok and Instagram. She often posted videos of her day, her playing tennis, or just about her life. Even Brock, the quarterback, knew who she was.
A couple of days before the Super Bowl, the company “SIXSTAR Pronutrition” which is a protein powder brand invited her to go watch the game. She brought a sign that had “Only I can stop Taylor now!” written on it referring to Taylor Swift’s boyfriend being in the opponent team and that sign offended many people.
Then, the hate comments were more and more recurrent, especially from other teenage girls. A lot of the comments were saying that she was overrated, that she looks like a man, or that her voice was annoying. People didn’t stop at writing comments they pursued making videos saying that she wasn’t all that and wasn’t that pretty. These comments were probably made out of jealousy. Even though she received hateful messages some of her followers still supported her and sent her nice comments.
Recently, she posted a video dancing with a boy, people assumed they were on a date, plenty of boys were acting a little jealous in the comment section and joking around but others called her mean names like “bop” which is a new way to say that a girl talks/sleep to many boys. This word is now overused by many and is very hurtful. People say it without any context and they are getting too comfortable with that term.
This just shows that hate on social media is a significant problem and can lead to low self-esteem.
