For a long time, people have been underestimating the Amazon Rainforest and haven’t been taking good care of it.
The Amazon Forest is located at the border of nine countries, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. The Amazon River crosses Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador. The Amazon is very important for the biodiversity and climate. It stabilizes the climate and homes a lot of animals, even some of the rarest animals are living in the forest. There are not only animals habitating the Amazon but also humans. Some Indigenous communities are living and working in the forest too since hundreds of years.
Some actions done by humans are destroying the forest, for example, illegal mining and logging. These two activities are two of the multiple causes of the deforestation of this beautiful land. Cattle ranching and road constructions are also affecting the forest by removing parts of the trees and vegetation of the biggest forest on earth.
You may think that The Amazon is a forest like the other, but it is really important for humanity. Some specific medical plants are only growing there so if those plants are removed due to construction or deforestation, certain medications will be lost forever. There will be people suffering because they can’t get any cure to their diseases. “Seventy percent of plants with anticancer properties exist only in the Amazon, and this is one of them! Currently, this incredible medicinal plant is used to treat cancer, alleviate pain from chemotherapy, and fight infections.” stated the Rainforest Cruises. This medical plant called Lapacho, can only be found in the Amazon.
Since 1970, 20 percent of the Amazon has been destroyed and it keeps going down every day. Goverments are trying to find solutions to save this rich forest.
