Hanna Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
A jury in New Mexico found the armorer who put the real bullet into the gun that Alec Baldwin was holding when it went off the set of “Rust”, killing the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. The prosecutors have accused the armorer, Hanna Gutierrez-Reed, of not correctly checking the munition in the gun and allowing real bullets onto the set. She faces up to 18 months of jail time. Mr. Balding, who has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, will stand trial in July. If he is not found innocent, he could also face up to 18 months in prison.
Mr. Bladwin has denied any responsibility for what happened. He said that he was told that the gun did not contain any live bullets and that live bullets were banned on stage. He also denied pulling the trigger on the gun but the forensic report determined otherwise. If found guilty, he could face a penalty of up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
It was later revealed that the movie’s assistant director, David Halls, had been sued over gun safety violations in a 2019 movie. He was dismissed from that movie after a member of the film incurred a minor injury from a discharged gun. He couldn’t be found for any comment but there is no suggestion that he was at fault for the film’s accident.
