Taylor Swift is one of the most famous singers in the world, so no doubt when a new album comes out, it changes the musical scenery.
The 34-year-old singer announced her new album at this year’s Grammy, causing anticipation amongst her loyal fans. It was released on April 19th, almost instantly ranked itself on Billboard 200, and is even in the Hot 100 (for the week of the 4th of May) in New York City.
The album was dropped at midnight with 16 songs and at 2 AM dropped a second version, with 15 more songs, named The Tortured Poets Departements: The Anthology. The fans expected this because Taylor’s latest album, Midnights, had a 3 AM version and added 7 songs to it.
This is also Swift’s first breakup album since Red and Red (Taylor’s Version), which for those who didn’t know is the re-record of her first albums. Talking about two of her exes, Matty Healy and Joe Alwyn, and her current boyfriend, Travis Kelce, the album’s subject is mainly, love, betrayal, heartbreak and anger, a good mix of emotions.
Many trends and social media references were already created with Taylor’s newest songs, for example, with “So High School”, people post their lover to the lyrics “No one ever had me, not like you.” There’s also a preference towards the track fives of the album; “So Long London” and “How Did It End “, there are two in this album because of the 2 Am version. The track fives are supposed to be gut-wrenching lyrics with the saddest melody, it is a reference made by fans.
” I think her new album is representing her new life and how she copes and lives with it.” said Laura, a journalist at the Camaradiant.
