Shein is a fast-fashion factory that produces clothes for people around the world. This company’s workers live in terrible conditions and work too many hours daily.
In July, Sixth Tone traveled to Guangzhou (Shein’s main production base in China) undercover to finally conclude that there were still poor working conditions and no concrete contracts made with workers. According to Sixth Tone, workers still operate past 9 p.m. The temperature is hot and humid and they endure these conditions for 18 hours daily.
In Shein’s warehouse, the workers struggle to deal with the intense work. They walk dozens of kilometers every day and only have a few breaks during their shifts. The employees need to sleep on the floor at their jobs. they are paid 18 euros per day and don’t go home. they sleep at the place where they work. videos are going viral on many websites of workers sleeping on their job’s floors.
Plus, they sell their clothes at cheaper prices than any other company. So, their employees are mostly unpaid or paid only a couple of dollars daily. The company uses troubling practices to produce clothes or other products faster and cheaper than other companies like ZARA and H&M.
People are doing Shein haul on their social media and are promoting clothes and fake gift cards which makes the employees work harder and many more hours to produce more and more clothes.
