Harrison Butcker, the kicker of the Kansas City Chiefs makes people react after disclosing inappropriate remarks to university students.
While giving a speech to students from the Catholic University of Kansas called Benedictine College, he said: “Some of you are going to have big careers. But I’m going to support that the majority of the women here are only going to be happy because of their marriage and kids”. He also said that his wife occupied one of the most important functions, which is “femme au foyer”. His thoughts are that women should only be at home, in the kitchen, taking care of the children.
Comments on social media mentioned that his statement was misogynistic. He also discriminated against the LGBT+ community. He associated the members of this community with deadly sin and who can forget about his affirmation that abortion was the synonym for ” innocent babies’ murder”. In other words, women should keep their babies no matter how they get pregnant or if they experience complications.
To complete and clarify, the football star would like a society where women stay home and their principal task would be to produce babies.
After his speech went public, people on the internet started to hate him and some of them even decided to create a petition to ask for his demise from the Chiefs. More than 186,000 people had already signed the paper on May 19th.
It’s fair to say that everybody can have their opinion on whatever subject is brought to the table but when you are famous and you talk in front of billions of people you have to be extremely careful and choose your words wisely.
On the other hand, it was not the first time that the Chiefs were stuck in controversy. You probably heard a couple of years ago that one of the players, named Tyreek Hill, was accused of conjugal violence and he was the object of an investigation into kids’ mistreatment.
Let’s hope this NFL team will be back on track, setting high moral standards.
