Each year, they encourage people to raise funds for Alzheimer’s disease. It is a walk organized at Parc Champigny, situé au 868, rue Commerciale à Saint-Jean-Chrysostome, At the base de Plein air de St-Foy,
The walk was organized during the weekend of May 24 and 25. After raising a record sum of $37,000 in 2023, the Société Alzheimer Centre-du-Québec set a goal of raising $40,000 this year, but this year, an amount of $128,977 was raised during the 18th edition of the IG Wealth Management 2024 Walk for Alzheimer’s! A new record was reached for this annual family event. The event aims to support research and care associated with this degenerative disease. Nearly 700 participants came to the Ste-Foy Outdoor Center this year, and more than 1,700 people contributed to this major benefit activity.
Every year, the Quebec Federation of Alzheimer’s Societies and the regional Alzheimer Society invite walkers to participate in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s. The annual raise has the objective to warn people about Alzheimer’s disease and other neurocognitive disorders. The money raised will notably provide respite to caregivers who support those suffering. Remember that to date, no cure exists for Alzheimer’s disease, which affects, with other neurocognitive disorders, approximately 16,000 people in the Quebec region.
According to the general Jérôme Gaudreault, “we are experiencing a crisis, adding that the number of caregivers will continue to explode.” They think it should double within ten years, adds the organizer, citing the aging of the population. There is a significant need for respite services. Dr. Rémi W. Bouchard, a retired neurologist and co-founder of the Society, also mentioned this hope and supported patients suffering from the disease for 50 years. He prefers to speak of cautious optimism.
Everything to know about Alzheimer’s: Alzheimer’s disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that destroys brain cells, causing memory and thinking skills to deteriorate over time. Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging and is irreversible.
This disease is getting more recognition as the years go by and more money is being spent to finding solutions to Alzheimer’s disease.
