The 28-year-old R&B singer, Christopher Brent Wood, known as Brent Faiyaz, announced that he retired 6 days ago on the 25th of May.
The singer known for his song “DEAD MAN WALKING”, uploaded a picture on Instagram with the caption: “Enjoying retirement”, on it. Fans are shocked about this and most of them don’t know how to react. “That better be the name of an album”, said one of them.
Brent’s most recent album: “Larger Than Life”, brought him a lot of new listeners but it seems like even with the impact of his career, he doesn’t want to make music anymore.
Fans are sad about this news but also find it very funny that he’s retiring because he said in his song “Clouded”, : ” I just pray they don’t forget my name.” Which is most likely to happen now that he wants to quit his career.
It’s unclear whether the artist is retiring for real, but his post was alarming for his old and new supporters. The old ones are sad that the artist they’ve been following since the beginning will maybe not be dropping more songs while the new ones are sad that they’ve discovered him “too late”.
Rumours that could explain his sudden retirement are circulating. Based on what is being said on social media, he supposedly became a father recently and that he got engaged but nothing has been proved.
There’s a lot of people quitting the music industry nowadays. There’s Childish Gambino who dropped his last album ever, Frank Ocean that disappeared and even SZA who talked about stopping making music.
“I think it’s sad to see so many artists quitting in the same time frame, but I’m also glad they are putting boundaries and taking care of themselves, even tho I would love new albums”, said Charlie Simard a writer of the Camaradiant.
A lot of people hope it’s only a joke and that he isn’t going to quit the music industry for real because they love his music and hope to get more.
