The law banning TikTok from every American’s phone concerns many people, especially content creators. Indeed, many users rely on TikTok for content creation, entertainment, education, and social connection. The ban would devastate many users since they would not be able to watch their favorite content creators.
TikTok influencers who use the app as their unique source of income would face many issues, as other social media platforms may not provide the same amount of attention and, therefore, the same amount of money.
Wedding stylist Kati Kons has been posting about the TikTok ban and said this in a video:
“It really hit me where I was, like, 90 percent of my business comes from TikTok. Ninety percent of my clients,” she said. “I don’t think I’ve had a single client inquiry come in from Instagram.”
Economically, this is a great example that shows how much pressure and financial problems TikTokers would face.
On the other hand, some content creators, such as Ben Shapiro and Philip DeFranco, think banning the controversial platform would be a great move. They argue that the app is a national security threat because the company owner is part of the Chinese Communist Party.
With incidents like the Chinese spy balloon that flew across the US or simply Chinese cyberattacks, it is reasonable that some people think TikTok should be banned, as it directly connects them to China.
So, the question is: Should TikTok be banned? Some content creators argue that it should not be banned because of company publicity or because the amount of work they put into the app would be ruined. Others say that it should be banned because of national risk factors.
In the end, the controversial app is in the hands of former President Donald Trump, who has been in charge of this matter since his re-election. “We have to save TikTok!” he said. For now, the social video app is not banned, but content creators are still worried because Trump has changed his mind many times on this topic. Changes could happen anytime.
