Every year at La Camaradière High School there is a writing contest. This year, the contest took place on Monday January 20th during the afternoon. The contest started at exactly 13:15 in the library of the school. The event was well organized by Stéphanie Gignac-Lord and Sonia Lachance, two teachers from the high school. This year’s contest was the sixteenth edition.
If there would have been a snow storm that day, the contest would have been reported on Friday January 24th but the school didn’t have to close so the contest did happen on January 20th like it was supposed to. The students that were participating in the competition missed classes in the afternoon.
Each french teacher was asked to have a total of five students that were willing to participate before Friday January 16th.
This competition concerned a writing improvisation and it is a great opportunity for the students to show their talent and, of course, to show what they are capable of. This event is serious, but the principal goal is for the students to have fun during the competition. If your text is chosen you could be part of the draw to then win a brand new computer.
This year, the participants were obligated to integrate in their texts some expressions about popular wisdom, literature, or history. The students were aware of the expressions and the editorial constraints the exact same day of the writing contest. They had little papers with the expressions on it and the explanations on the back.
The theme for this year’s competition was “An expression is worth a thousand words.” Also, the contestants had approximately two hours to write their texts and they also had a maximum of five hundred words to do. The students could also listen to music while writing their texts.
Louanne Lombard Pulcina one of the participants in the competition, said that she really had fun doing the writing contest. She had a lot of creativity and inspiration to write. She also reported that she wasn’t stressed at all, and that she would do it again anytime. Last year, she had also participated and had won a gift card of 25$ to buy books.
