Many Canadians have shown their discontent with the president’s posts about annexing Canada, Greenland, and Panama.
Canada’s present prime minister, Justin Trudeau, has responded to this claim, saying ”Not a chance” and ”It’s not going to happen”
There are many ways the annexation of Canada could be a problem for both. Public support of Trump’s declaration about Canada is quite low; a poll showed 82% of Canadians were opposed to the idea of joining the States, while 12% of Canadians are in support of joining their neighbor down south.
Canada would have a very hard time integrating due to unrest and instability, and of course, massive protests all around the country.
The more tolerant gun laws due to the Second Amendment would cause more problems as Canadians are known for having stricter gun laws to prevent murders and shootings.
Now, if the USA annexed Canada, decisions could be made that wouldn’t align with political and economic interests, as budget spending would drastically change Canada’s economy.
Canadians are experts in social welfare programs, being able to help a lot of people in desperate need. American social welfare programs tend to help families in difficult situations less. For example, healthcare is free in the Great White North, while in America, medical treatment must be paid, unless insurance covers it.
The currency change from the Canadian Dollar (CAD) to the United States Dollar (USD) would eliminate all monetary policy control, making us fully dependent on the US for adding and changing policies.
It is well known that the USA follows religion much more seriously than Canadians do, although in northeast USA, this would not be a problem, due to its similarity in religious morals, atheism is widespread in New England, even more than Canada itself!
If the Americans were to annex their northern neighbors, Canadian University’s tuition fees likely would see some increase due to demand, as Americans flood into the historically cheaper universities now available to them without leaving their country.
In a scenario where a forceful annexation would happen, dramatical impact on the world’s relations with America. Because of Canada’s NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) membership and having close ties with the European Union (EU), well, first of all, NATO’s Article 5 would be triggered, leading to an all-out war between NATO countries and America. And second of all, the European Union would likely weaken ties massively and put large sanctions on the United States.
However, an annexation without strong economic pressure would be impossible, as the majority of Canadians are against annexation of their country.
