TikTok was banned in the United States on January 19th. For now, we can still have TikTok in Canada but what would happen if Quebec was next?
A lot of people spend hours per day on TikTok, but mostly teenagers and young adults. So, if TikTok wasn’t there anymore would they survive? “I would be alright but at first it would be boring,” said a teenager. Most of them had the same opinion and said that they would be bored at first, but eventually they could be more productive.
A lot of people who are using TikTok don’t know about the dangers that TikTok can have. On the other hand, some of them are aware of the risk but don’t really care. “I don’t mind because I have nothing to hide,” said a user of TikTok. In fact, it can be more dangerous than it looks since some Americans receive weird messages from China saying, “America wants war”, “Your government is lying”, and “China is peaceful”.
Others received screenshots of their conversation with their friends of an unknown user. America is worried about what China could do with their data. It is the main reason why they chose to ban it in the States.
Also, a lot of false information can spread across the application and can misinform teenagers, young adults and even kids who are using TikTok. To use TikTok, you need thirteen years old, still, a lot of kids under that age use TikTok even if they are not supposed to. They see everyday content that is not necessarily suitable or appropriate for children their age.
Some teenagers even took their own life after doing a TikTok challenge and it wasn’t the first time an event like this has happened. People should use TikTok more carefully and take the danger more seriously.
