Azealia Banks declared on February 25 ,2025 that Quebec should be independent, she stated “Quebec should become a country, honestly,”. Her comment was made on the platform “X”.

She is a worldwide singer celebrity behind famous songs like 212,luxury and new bottega.

Her statement was more a passing remark instead of something that was part of a big discussion or interview.

Her tweet was made after she came to Canada and visited Quebec. After making  this comment, she said “The rest of Canada is full of scum white girls, drugs and country people with awful interiors.”

Her words might affect what people think, because of her popularity. Therefore people’s opinions might be biased. Supporters of Quebec independence might find her statement encouraging, while other Canadian might view it as controversial.

Supporters of Quebec independence went as far as contacting the prime minister, François Legault to draw his attention to Banks’ posts.

Her statement were noticed by an elected member of the Parti Quebecois,  Pascal Bérubé. Addressing Ms.Banks directly,on Instagram, he wrote,”Thanks for the support,”.

However, this American signer might not be the one to listen too.”Azealia Banks is an artist, but also an internet personality who publishes a lot, especially on X, sometimes incendiary stuff,” explains Daphné B., author and web columnist.

This internet star is a Trump and Putin supporter. She claimed to “adore” Vladimir Putin , she described him as “the best super antagonist of all time”. She also criticized Ukraine while relaying false informations about the subject. She was also attending rallies to support Donald Trump during his 2024 presidential campaign.

The New York-born musician is known for being controversial by insulting other celebrities like, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé. She has also been accused of making racist and homophobic comments and had her Twitter account banned.
