The plane, owned by Endeavor Air, a regional airline subsidiary of Delta Airlines, was a CRJ-900, which could hold about 76 passengers.
Delta Air Lines Flight 4819 was landing on the runway, possibly due to harsh weather, while landing, the aircraft turned over, caught into flames, skidded on the runway, and soon lost its wings and its tail.
The plane came from Minneapolis and was cleared to land at about 2:10 pm, due to the brave and heroic actions taken by the crew and the emergency workers leading passengers to safety, not a single passenger was announced deceased. Although 2 people were deemed in critical condition, fortunately, they recovered.
The Delta flight crew and emergency workers were soon praised by the Toronto International Airport president, Deborah Flint. She praised them for their ”textbook response” to the “accident in minutes”.
An individual aboard the crashed plane gave out a statement. ”It crashed down onto the ceiling, which became the floor.” Referring to when the 76-passenger plane flipped over.
Soon, footage from air traffic controllers and even passengers surviving the crash blew up on social media apps like Tiktok and Twitter. The recordings showed exactly what happened. From the impact, to the plane catching on fire and flipping, and to the evacuation of passengers.
Airplane crashes seem to be more frequent to people, causing terror among individuals and making it seem like aircraft are unsafe. Last month, a midair collision between a military helicopter and an American Airlines plane killed 67 people. But airplanes have never been safer.
This January, about 62 crashes were recorded, mostly involving private planes. The number of crashes was about 18 fewer, showing the immense progress in safety among aircraft.
On a sadder note, ten of those crashes appeared to be fatal, but only one of these involved a commercial airliner. Although historically, 10 fatal crashes are actually very low in a month.
