Mirra Andreeva is a young tennis player who was born in Russia. Her professional career started in 2022, which means that she was only 15 years old when she started. For instance, most tennis players begin their professional journey at the age of 20.
The event she won is the BNP Paribas Open tournament, a worldwide tournament including a masculine Masters 1000 branch and a feminine WTA 1000 branch. This event happens annually at Indian Wells, in California, and is always much appreciated by tennis fans.
With this impressive win, she managed to get 1000 points (Points are given according to your final tournament rank. The more points you have, the better you are.) These points managed to make her climb up to sixth place, which makes her the only teenager in the top 10.
In the moment following the win, Mirra Andreeva felt confident and also surprised, for she was climbing the ranks very fast compared to previous champions. “Honestly, I would say I’m a little surprised that I did it so soon, but I don’t know why, I feel confident in my game […]”, she said in an interview right after her match.
She won against Aryna Sabalenka, the current top-ranked player in women’s tennis. She has 18 single titles, which is a lot; for contrast, Mirra has only 3, and she somehow managed to beat her.
“Honestly, it was me against me. […] I made a lot of unforced errors on important points, and I just let her play a little bit better “, said Sabalenka after her loss. She doesn’t necessarily give the win to Mirra’s great performance, but more on her errors she made that let her opponent take over.
