Quebec has a history of voting for the Bloc Québécois (BQ) and the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC), which has been quite an issue over the years for the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC). On the other hand, Pierre Poilievre’s last promise of reviving GNL Québec (a liquefied natural gas project previously rejected due to environmental concerns) and supporting the third link, (a road tunnel project between Quebec City and Lévis) things could have taken a turn in Quebec.
Indeed, “could” is the right word, because nothing much really happened. According to Qc125, only some regions like Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean and Charlevoix inclined their vote towards the CPC.
Of course the campaign isn’t over yet, but right now the Liberals have a strong lead in almost every provinces. Many people criticize Poilievre because of his “blurred plans”. In fact, an ex-liberal voter named Alain (who didn’t give his last name) said this to his conservative deputy friend, Fanny Boulanger “I’ll vote for you in Jonquière because I don’t want the Bloc to win, and the Liberals have nobody here. But tell your leader he needs to change.”
He’s not the only one with this opinion, many people accuse the conservatives of being too fixed on the liberals instead of the “real problem” president Donald Trump.
“I think my party’s strategy is the right strategy. I don’t think we should change it” Fanny said in response of Alain’s saying.
According to a lot of Quebecers, big changes are set to occur following the political debate on April 16th, la Maison de Radio-Canada in Montreal.
There are no doubts that this event will change the public’s mind on the elections. It will depend on how the leaders are going to perform.
We’ll keep you informed following the event. Stay tuned !
