In the team, most players are 15 or 16 years old, and for some, it’s even their first year of volleyball. Jonathan Simard, the team’s coach, succeeded in training all of them well enough to be able to win against strong opponents. Jonathan also asked three CEGEP players to join them and help out. Charles-Etienne Simard, Jasmin Grégoire, and Eliot Nadeau Filteau are all old students of La Camaradère High School. Jonathan also asked players from a younger team to help out since many of the juveniles’ team players couldn’t come to the tournament.
This tournament was the last one of the year-and for some of them, the last tournament of their lives. Not only the players but also the spectators claimed that it was a very stressful atmosphere. Some people in the crowd even mentioned that they were very “into the game“ and that it was a very interesting moment.
The first team they played against was “Les Citadelles” which is made-up of 18 years old players including Sainte-Foy’s first middle blocker. Jonathan mentioned that it was the game to win, which means that they’re the strongest players they would face.
At the end of the tournament, Jonathan thought they would have to play against “Les Citadelles” a second time since he thought they were the best, but another team won against them.
“Les Éperviers” were undefeated until their last game, which they played against the strongest team. They were two points away from victory, which is a big exploit. “They’re all 17 and 18-year-old players, they’ve been playing volleyball for many years,“ mentioned Jonathan Simard, “it’ll be an exciting game“.
Their tournement lasted two days and their last game finished at 8 PM. Then, all of the 12 players went home with a silver medal of “La Classique Citadelles“ to finish the year.
