Adolescence appears for the first time on the platform Netflix on March 13th, 2025. A TV show that touches every parent from the bottom of their heart, because of the story.
The story talks about a young boy named Jamie, who is only 13 years old, and has been bullied online by a girl. He was very affected by her speech, so he decided to follow her and stabbed her. The first episode starts roughly with the police who came into the house to take the little boy to the police station.
The parents are not worried about the scenario of the TV show, but about what their children are doing on social media. Should they be?
With this show, the parents are wondering if they are doing enough to protect their own kids from our other universe: the internet.
“I did not know that danger was in plain sight but so cleverly hidden from me,” contributor Jen McGuire, who wrote on a new site called Scary Mommy, where the parents are writing about their everyday.
It touches the parents because they aren’t aware of all the hate that they have on social media.
The University of Waterloo is researching the rise of hate on social media, where there’s disinformation, hate on gender, violence, etc. Their study said that social media is very underestimated by most adults, and that even a lot of young people are exposed to disinformation.
The U.K. Prime Minister shared an idea by Netflix that is to stream Adolescence in class for free across the country, so that many teenagers could watch it to inform themselves about this situation.
Steamer said that it will “help students to understand the impact of misogyny, the danger, and the importance of having a healthy relationship with society.”
Maybe it will help society to have healthy relations with each other.
