Lady Gaga’s big return was marked by her huge concert in Rio De Janeiro on May 3rd. The event held at Copacabana Beach drew an estimated of 2.5 millions of fans from around the world, all eagerly gathered to witness her performance. The concert was free to attend , which helps to explain how Lady Gaga managed to beat the insane record of the biggest crowd ever gathered for a female artist.
During this mega-concert, a bomb attack was foiled and two people were arrested. Authorities acted swiftly, preventing what could’ve been a devastating incident. The terrorists were planing a “group attack” and were mainly targeting children, and the LGBTQ+ community, a group that made up a significant portion of the hundreds of thousands of Lady Gaga fans in Rio.
The police reported that the group was trying to recruit teenagers to carry out attacks using Molotov cocktails and improvised explosives. The news shocked many fans, especially because of how joyful the event was.
The responsible of the plan was arrested in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, having a firearm in possession. The police said that they acted discreetly without interrupting the concert, which was patrolled by 5000 officers and drones.
Additional measures included undercover agents blending into the crowd, carefully monitoring suspicious behavior and using facial recognition technology to identify known threats. A teenager who was called “fake monster” by the group, got arrested as well.
This incident, despite being concerning did not disrupt the concert from going on successfully. Lady Gaga went on with her performance unaware of the danger.
