For over 45 years, Leucan has supported children with cancer and their families by offering services such as emotional support, financial assistance, recreational activities, and educational support. The association also participates in research and provides end-of-life and grief support.
This year will be the 17th year that the foundation has come to the school. Benoit Thibodeau, the personal development and community engagment facilitator (PDCEF) of the school is the one that since the beginning has been in charge of this big event at school.
This year alone, students and staff from the Camaradiere high school raised 4845$ for Leucan which is an impressive 97% of their expectations. There were 108 donors, but the most generous this year are in first place Olivier Champagne a french teacher at school who donated 1000$ which was more than expected he gave 133%. Then in second place with a donation of 970$ is Mathieu Lacasse and finally Guillaume Beland donated 780$.
«Our school decided to participate to the shave your head challenge by Leucan to support all of the children reached by cancer and their families.By
shaving our heads we not only want to raise awareness but also collect donations for Leucan, an organization dedicated to providing services to courageous children,» are the words and reason why the Camaradiere High School accepted Leucan’s challenge.
After the experience I had the chance to talk to some of the generous people who participated to the challenge and all of them were really happy about their accomplishments and proud of their shaved head.«At first I was scared of the look I was going to end up with, but it was just the fact that i was going to help people that really mattered so I was proud of myself!»
Let’s hope the school continues hosting that event every other year to help all the people in need.
