Some publicity of the Quebecoise brand Garage has been reported by parents for the hypersexualization of mannequins. Models that are almost naked and have a suspicious posture.
Anne-Marie, a mother of two children, reported on Facebook what she saw when entering the store. ”The girl was from behind, and she wore a mini skirt, and the central element on the picture was between her legs”
She also said that she wasn’t feeling comfortable going there with her 7-year-old child. Her child said that she was disgusted to see a naked girl in a publicity.
The answer of the brand was that their target isn’t the teenagers , but the women who are aged 20 years old and more. They want them to feel comfortable with their body.
Garage is known by many young girls and they absolutely know that. They want their community to feel comfortable in what they wear.In fact, they are putting “xs” size in value and the cost is less expensive when you buy “xs”.
Not a lot of women, at the end of their 20’s will put that kind of shirt. For most of them ,they started noticing that it wasn’t their style anymore.
The hypersexualisation in publicity is obviously working with all their customers, who aren’t warned about that. It is a growing problem in our society.
“We aren’t supposed to go back to the old days” ,said the president of the Women Federation. Women should wear what they want. It’s their body and their right. On the other hand, they shouldn’t be seen as objects in publicity .
Garage should pay attention to their publicity and be clearer with who are their customers, teenagers or the 20 years old and more…
