Although Miss Bernard has just joined the school two years ago, she stands out as one of the most appreciated French teachers in Secondary Three.
Her education journey began when she was coaching figure skating to kids. She always wanted to be a teacher. Still, when it was time to choose her career, guidance counsellors recommended that she consider another profession because there were not many job opportunities available. Luckily, she persisted.
After this partial rejection, Annie decided to pursue a career in tourism. Following the September 11th event, people in this field lost their jobs and experienced a decline in their average income. Not long after, she decided to return to school to explore a new profession. An acquaintance from her school days helped her find a job in accounting software, which eventually led her to become a French teacher for teenagers.
Inside the school, this cultivated person enjoys reading and would recommend the book “La Tresse,” a French novel written by Laetitia Colombani, which tells the stories of three wonderful women.
Annie is also a big fan of travelling; she makes around three trips every year. She usually has one in March Break, another during summer vacation, and a last one in December, during Christmas vacation. Another of her hobbies is riding bikes.
Her next trips on her list would be Germany, Poland, and a part of France to see all the places that the Second World War touched. It would complete her trip, which included a visit to Winston Churchill’s World War II Museum, where people had taken shelter during the Second World War.
Annie Bernard’s favourite sentence as a teacher is: “We get attached to these little creatures.” She loves her students and always wants them to learn. Also, she has been an educator for twenty years.
Also, Annie’s favourite year of teaching is secondary three because, as she said, “the teenagers aren’t babies anymore but still want to learn.” They are living in the moment and aren’t thinking about college yet.”
Despite her little fondness for the popular movie “Dirty Dancing”, her favourite one is “Incendies”, which is adapted from a theatre piece. It upset her, and she couldn’t sleep for several days in a row.
A future project she is considering for next year is to create “mind maps.” If it works properly, students will be able to memorize and integrate verb tenses better.
