Each year, in Quebec, a foundation called “Les Découvreurs à la course” organizes a run that passes through 28 primary and secondary schools from the Découvreurs School Service Center, for a whole day. They did it for the association Enfant Soleil by collecting a lot of money to give it back to the cooperative.
This year, the run took place on Thursday, May 15th, with school staff members, some parents, and several hundred students, all running for the cause. It was a run of 60 kilometers that started at 8:22 am and finished at the very end of the day.
Les Découvreurs à la Course have been encouraging the Operation Enfant Soleil for eight years now. They are doing it in order to help them accumulate money to provide necessary equipment for the children in need. That way, they could participate in many activities and have more funds to be able to find medication for their recovery.
Operation Enfant Soleil is an organization that supports children’s care in Quebec. Its goal is to improve the quality of care for all the sick children by raising funds to support the university’s studies in pediatric centers.
The runner, Cyril, also met a kid who had cancer before his run. He developed a strong attachment to him by being in his presence, but sadly, the kid passed away a couple of weeks ago.
The physical education teacher from the elementary schools Les Pionniers and Les Bocages, Cyril Arnaud, is the one who volunteered to be the person running for the organization. Year after year, he recruits colleagues and friends to this magnificent cause to help the children who need it.
The people who accompanied him this day for the proper functioning of the event, were Geneviève Gonthier, a teacher in five grade from the school Le Ruisselet, who ran 30 kilometers next to him, Élisa Maude Morin, a special education teacher also from the school Le Ruisselet, and Noémie Jacques, a preschool teacher at the elementary school Les Sources and many other workmates.
