‘’L’Anse au meadows’’ is one of the national historic site of canada found in Newfoundland and the only one discovered in the area of NL (abreviation of Newfoundland and Labrador),until now.

A group of archeologist have probably found a second Viking’s establishment. They have found hints in the area of  Point Rosee, in the north-west of Newfoundland.

‘’L’anse of meadows’’, in the northern part of the island, is still the only place authentified in North America for the moment. the distance between the second and the first establishment is about 600km.

The archeologist Sarah Parcak did some research in Newfoundland for a documentary production for PBS. The New York Times reports that her team has found Iron marsh and some remains of walls like Viking built in their time. But experts said that it needs more proofs to come to the conclusion that it was a viking’s establishment. They use satellite to search for the later.

The Vikings were the first europeans that have built at least one establishment in Newfoundland, about 1000 years ago. ”L’anse au meadows” has been discovered in 1960. We dont have any idea of how long they have stayed there.

“Either it’s … an entirely new culture that looks exactly like the Norse and we don’t know what it is,” she told The Washington Post in a phone interview. “Or it’s the westernmost Norse site that’s ever been discovered.”And although her team is still seeking definitive evidence , further excavations and analysis are required to prove that the site didn’t come from some other community . Parcak is feeling more and more optimistic that the latter possibility is the right one.
