The Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping events of the year for Americans.
Black Friday originates from the late 19th century. During thanksgiving, there were Santa Claus parades. Many of those parades were sponsored by department stores. This brought the idea that Santa Claus had ”arrived”, in other words, the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
This was in fact a way for the stores to increase their profits since the shopping season would be longer than usual.
During the 1930s, the president of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt, changed the date of Thanksgiving from the last Thursday of November to the 4th Thursday of November. This change was very convenient for the stores since, in a few cases, that would lead the shopping season to start on weeks earlier.
Since then, Black Friday has been part of American culture. Unfortunately, there is a negative side to this annual event.

Even if Black Friday is only once a year, there are many accidents that occur on that weekend. According to the web site “Black Friday Death Count”, there has been 7 deaths and 98 injuries since 2006 .

This is too much for just a sale. One of the most famous stories is the Wall Mart employee who got crushed after opening the doors  to some hysterical buyers. It is also common to see clients fighting over products.

Will we get the 100th injured this year? I hope not, but this is something that will depend on the buyers…
