Consent age

Laura and Laurie-Frédérique

In general, the legal age for consenting to sexual activities is 16 year old. However, the law can make an exception for teenagers that has intimate relationships on purpice.

Here’s a little reminder of the canadian law:

  • if you are under 12 years old: it is not legal to have sexual relationship in ANY circumstance
  • If you are 12 ou 13 : You can have sex with a partner that is your age or maximum 2 years older than you
  • If the youngest partner is 14 or 15 years old: there can not have more than 5 years of difference between the two persons involved.
  • The oldest partner can’t be positioned in an authority situation (for example a teacher, baby sitter, monitor, a sport coach..) and the youngest person needs to not be dependant facing their partner. If it is the case, the younger partner needs to be at least 18 years old.

The rights, in subject of sexuality are different all around the world. Here are some example of the most uncommun rules:

  • In Hong Kong, a wife is legally allowed to kill her cheating husband, but only with her bare hands.
  • Under lebanese law, mens are legally allowed to have sex with animals, but the animal must be a female.
  • In Cali Colombia, mothers are allowed to watch their daughters lose their virginity on the wedding night.
  • In Oregon, it’s illegal for a man to curse during sex.
  • In Budapest, sex is only allowed in the dark. Even in your home, with your wife.
  • In Texas, you may own up to six dildos, no more. Someone who has mor could own a $4,000 fine or a jail term of up to one year.

Most of young people these days aren’t really aware of the Canadian laws and take it often carelessly while they have their entire life to try sex. Indeed, from the opinion of many sexologs, they should always wait until they are really comfortable with their partner.

I hope you can be more conscious about the laws and take better decisions.
