Audrey Mainguy

In the night of January 7th 2017, a cow and a rooster have been killed by two individuals following the vandalism of the SAFA animal refuge at Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici.

An investigation is opened to find who did these atrocities. They caused material damage and various acts of cruelties on the animals. Two of them have been killed and the other animals have been injured. The motives of this unfortunate event it’s that they wanted to sold the tails and the mane of the horses and the sheep’s wool, that they steal from the animals, to produce money.

Material’s damage report:

  • Many windows had been broken.
  • Two of the entrances have been forced and demolished.
  • The water system is broken because of the cold weather.

Animal’s damage report during this horror night:

  • There were notches on the horse’s legs.
  • The sheep’s wool had been shaved dangerously.
  • A cow and a rooster died during the attack.
  • The tails and the mane of every horse have been cut.
  • Every animals had psychological wounds.

Claudia Andersten, a zoo therapist from Quebec city is the owner of the refuge, which provides a second chance for abused, mistreated and neglected farm animals. This is a major step back in her rehabilitation work whit these animals. The death of the cow, named Ayami, affected her emotionally because this wonderful animal had been a long time resident of the refuge.

“I was prostrated by her side. I was distraught, angry, but especially sad as we cannot explain. My heart broke. I spent several hours by her side, crying not being able to protect my sweet Ayami anymore”, Claudia said.

Another of her mission is to allow children to interact whit farm animals through some educational activities to have interaction opportunity whit some disabled children named OBE.

You can help the SAFA shelter whit donations and farm equipment!
