13 month ago, Colin Kaepernick took a knee for the first time during the national anthem, starting a movement he never expected.

Many other players followed Kaepernick’s action and finally caught the attention of the US president. In September, Donald Trump stated during a conference, and on twitter, about the behavior of the NFL’s athletes.

Trump completely ignored the problem that was the center of it all, police brutality, and only cared about the fact that they were “disrespecting” the flag. He also told the public, in a disrespectful way, that every player who dishonor the flag should be fired from the national football league.

The football players never intended to disrespect the flag in any possible way, their only goal was to protest against police violence upon African-American. For them kneeling during the national anthem wasn’t a movement full of hatred but a gesture of humility.

In 2015, in the United States of America, 991 people were killed by police officers, 963 last year and 802 so far this year. In three years, a total of 2,756 Americans were killed without mercy by the hand of those who are suppose to be the “icon of justice”. 46 percent of the victims was an American of color and 11 percent of them were unharmed

Unfortunately, Donald Trump misunderstood their intention and didn’t concentrate on the real problem that many black american are living on a regular day basis.

All of these atrocities are the reason why Colin Kaepernick took a knee for the first time during the national anthem a year ago and why many of professional athletes are doing the same.

Colin Kaepernick went further then just kneeling during the national anthem, he also donated a million dollars of his 11 millions dollars salary to different community organizations in goal to help those who are touch by police brutality.
