Eight people died and eleven others injured by a truck attack near World Trade Center on November 1st.

A 29-year-old man from Uzbekistan drove a truck on the West Side Highway bike path. The driver, called Sayfullo Saipov, hit bicyclists and pedestrians. His vehicle collided with a school bus at Chambers Street. After the collision, the driver exited the Home Depot’s rental with a pellet gun and a paintball gun. A police officer fired at the man, wounding him in the stomach. Sayfullo Saipov was taken into custody. After his arrest, the suspect underwent surgery and was in critical condition but was expected to survive.

The incident is being investigated as terrorism, officials said.

Five friends from Argentina, Anne-Laure Decadt, Nicholas Cleves and Darren Drake died in the attack. Three people from Belgium, two adults and two children were injured.
