November 3rd, 2020, Joe Biden has been elected the 46th president of the United States.

As you probably know, every four years in the United States, there are presidential elections. There are two sides; the democrats and the republicans. This year, the democrats were represented by Joe Biden. He served as the 47th vice president of the US from 2009 to 2017 under Barack Obama. He has been in US politics since 1970 when he was first elected as a senator. If the election process is followed, He should move into the white house on January 20th. “He is kind, respectful and he takes Covid-19 seriously”, said Laurie Lavoie, a student from grade 9.

The republicans were represented by Donald Trump, 45th and current president of the United States. The opinions about this man are really controversial, “He is a misogynist, racist man who can’t take a defeat” said Edwin. “While many respondents had reservations about Trump’s ability to do the job, many still view him as a powerful figure” according to ABC news.

The vote was really tight, 52% for Joe Biden, and 44% for Donald Trump. Trump still can’t accept his defeat and says the vote was rigged but he has yet to provide any proof. Nevertheless, many are worried that his refusal to admit defeat will diminish the fundamental trust Americans have toward the election system. There are also reasons to believe that the lack of an orderly transition will impair the new administration’s response to the coronavirus crisis.
