Super Straight, a New Transphobic “Sexual Orientation”?
April 23, 2021
Since last weekend, a few people are coming out on social media by calling themselves Super Straight. While they think that they are part of the LGBTQ community, a large number of people claim that it is more of a transphobic movement.
On February 21, Kyleroyce, a TikTok user, published a video on the platform explaining his new sexual orientation called “Super straight”. He claims to be the creator of this orientation. Since then, numerous social media users have shared the video by claiming to have also been part of this new community.
According to the definition of the creator of this movement, someone who identifies as super straight is a heterosexual who only want to be with cisgender people of the opposite gender. In other words, if you are a man, you will not date a woman if she is transsexual. On March 4, the Urban Dictionary post said the definition is: “When you only are heterosexual but you are only attracted to the person that was born the opposite gender.”
The super straight community is getting bigger and bigger, they even created a flag with the colors orange and black. But does it really make sense that people who claim to be part of the LGBTQ community identify themselves with a “sexual orientation” based on the discrimination of another part of that same community?
The biggest question now is: Is it transphobic to say that you are super straight? When you say that you will not date a trans woman, is it because you think that she is not a real woman. In his video, Kyleroyce said, “I wouldn’t date a trans woman … because they are not real women … you can’t say that I’m transphobic now because that’s just my sexuality”. So, was this sexuality created just to hide his transphobia behind it?
It’s okay if you don’t want to be in a relationship with someone trans, after all everyone does whatever they want. On the other hand, it is a bit of an exaggeration to make this view of things a sexual orientation. Kyleroyce thinks he can convince people that this is normal, like if trans people weren’t normal humans. He is creating a movement that only serves to prove that he is not transphobic by attacking and discriminating against the community of transexual people.
