     On may 21, the men’s hockey world championship started for the 83th edition in Riga in Latvia.

 

     This championship was created by the IIHF(International Ice Hockey Federation) in 1920. This competition is from May to June so at the same time of the playoffs of the NHL(national hockey league). There are only players who aren’t playing in the playoffs or elites from the countries who play in the championship. 

 

     There are teams from all around the world who play hockey representing their country. There wasn’t one in 2020 according to the covid. The teams are from Canada, Finland, USA, Latvia, Czechia, United-Kingdom, Slovakia, Danemark, Russia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Swissand Austria. The last country who won the championship was Finland. The country who won the most trophies is Russia with 27 trophies.

 

     The 16 teams are separated into two groups of 8. The first one is group A and the second one is group B. The teams in each group play one against the other and then the four first of their respective groups go to the quarter-finals. The winners of the quarter finals go to the semi finals and the winners of the semi finals go to the final to win the trophy.
