Mayor For Two Hours

After doing her celebration speech, Marie-Josée Savard learned that her lead got crushed by the candidate Bruno Marchand.

Around 20:30, Marie-Josée Savard was declared mayor of Quebec by the media. A few minutes later, she was doing her victory speech about how she would quickly start to fulfill her electoral promises.

But no one would believe what happened next.

Later that night, the lead of 5000 votes that was between her and Bruno Marchand, another candidate for mayor, was getting smaller and smaller. Both of them were very tied until the opening of the last boxes. The vote ended with the win of Bruno Marchand, with a lead of 834 votes. Both of the candidates are waiting for the result of the recount to celebrate.

‘’There is probably going to be a recount,’’ declared Patrice Drouin, director of ms Savard’s campaign.

Marie-Josée Savard congratulated the new mayor and all of the elected council members. She wanted to thank all of her team for their help and support in her campaign.

Bruno Marchand is going to have to lead the city of Quebec with a minority government with only six councilors elected Monday night. His government will need to deal with 15 councilors with other ideas.

Bruno Marchand is in favor of the tramway project but he wants to make some modifications to make it less expensive. He hasn’t taken a position towards the third link between Quebec and Levis. “It’s too early to take a position. We are going to wait for the project the government will present to us,” said the new mayor.

Radio-Canada and all of the other media are sorry for what happened and affirmed that the system was not infallible as they thought it would.
