About 20 Records of Precipitations Beaten in British Columbia Because of an Atmospheric River

Southern British Columbia is hit by an atmospheric river that brings heavy precipitation to land already buried in snow. In the Frazer’s valley, more than 100mm of rain are expected this weekend. The snow melting might be an important factor in these precipitations causing landslides.

Lots of other factors influenced these rains and floods. The rising temperatures are a major factor because the earth water cycle increases evaporation which leads to more regular and massive precipitations.

The consequences of these events forced residents to take refuge in camps. The city was on hiatus during these events. Highway 7 was completely flooded. Mudslides damaged many vehicles and homes. The two main bridges were flooded which blocked all traffic in the city.

Fortunately, no deaths were recorded during these events. A signifiant part of the army had to get involved to save the habitants. More than 820 soldiers were there to help the victims and 27 loud vehicles had to be deployed. British Columbia is still recovering from theses expenses

The prime minister of Canada, Justin had this to say about the events in BC:”to the people of Merritt and British Columbians affected by the flooding: be careful. As Minister Blair said, we are going to be there to provide you with the support you need to help you cope with these floods and extreme conditions and recover from them.”

In BC, people say that the masses of rain that we had during the last few weeks were out of common and exceptional. Lots of inondations occurred during these weeks because of that. 540 mm of rain fell on the British Columbia’s habitants heads.
